Sarnia swim team owns podium during recent meet

Members of the Sarnia Rapids Swim Team brought a boatload of silverware back from a recent visit to London as part of the Nothers Fall Invitational swim meet, which took place at the Canada Games Aquatic Centre from Nov. 22 to 24.

Sarnia swimmers took home a total of 28 medals from the competition.

Ten-year-old Rapids swimmer Aili Girardi won four gold medals during the competition, one each in the 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke competitions, as well as gold in the 50m fly. Girardi also finished second in the 50m and 400m freestyle competitions.

Seventeen-year-old Shona Branton placed first in the 50m, 100m and 200m breastroke competitions while also picking up a bronze in the 50m fly.

Daisy Jenkins, 13, won gold in the 50m breastroke, silver in the 50m freestyle and a pair of bronzes in the 50m fly and the 100m breastroke.

Eleven-year-old Lucas Jones swam to a first place finish in the 200m individual medley while also nabbing a pair of silvers in the 50m breastroke and 200m backstroke competitions.

Kayla Marshall, 16, won four silvers at the event in the 50m fly, 50m backstroke, 100m fly and 200m fly competitions.

Fourteen-year-old Jack Girardi took home silver in the 50m backstroke and bronze in the 50m freestyle and 100m backstroke races.

Maddisson Hawryluk, 16, placed second in the 100m breastroke and third in the 50m breastroke and 800m freestyle events.

Eleven-year-old Hudsen Fisher picked up silver after finishing second in the 200 individual medley competition.

The Sarnia Rapids Swim Team is currently training for its next meet of the season, which is set to take place at the Windsor International Aquatic and Training Centre.
