Sarnia swimmers represent at Brantford competition

Members of the Sarnia Rapids swim team racked up a dozen medals during a competition held at the Brantford Aquatic Club early in February, the 2020 Western Region Short Course Championships.

Sarnia swimmer Aili Girardi won three silver medals, one in the 400m freestyle race as well a pair in the 50m and 100m backstroke competitions. Girardi also picked up a bronze in the 100m individual medley.

Maddisson Hawryluk also earned three silver medals at the competition, picking up one in the 800m freestyle race, one in the 100m breastroke competition as well as another in the 200m breastroke. Hawryluk also nabbed a pair of bronze medals in the 400m freestyle and 50m breastroke competitions.

Daisy Jenkins finished second twice, earning silver in the 100m freestyle and 100m breastroke races, while Cooper Stanford earned a bronze medal in the 100m backstroke.

As a result of her performance in the pool at the championships, Aili Girardi earned qualifying times to compete at festivals in three of her events while Daisy Jenkins qualified for both festivals and the junior provincial championships in one of her events.
