Swimmers score 22 medals at London meet

Members of the Sarnia Rapids swim team once again swept up an abundance of gold, silver and bronze medals during a recent swim meet, this time in London at the 2019 London Aquatic Club Pentathlon meet in April.

Twenty-three young swimmers from Sarnia attended the meet, picking up a total of 22 medals in a number of categories and across numerous age groups.

Nine year-old Aili Girardi took gold in three events – the 100m fly, the 100m back and the 100m free – while nabbing silver in the 200 individual medley. Girardi won the overall award for her age group at the meet while breaking two meet records in the 100m free and the 100m back competitions.

Fellow nine-year-old Ella Boisvert placed third in the 100m fly, while 14 year-old Jack Girardi won silver in the 100m back competition.

Maddison Hawryluk, 15, picked up gold after winning the 100m breaststroke race, while also securing a bronze in the 200m individual medley competition.

Thirteen-year-old Gabrielle Jones finished second in the 100m breaststroke, while nine-year-old Natalie Pretty picked up four silvers in the 100m fly, 100m back, 100m free and 200m individual medley races.

Kayla Marshall, 15, took gold in the 100m back as well as silver in both the 100m fly and the 100m free.
Cody Stanford, 17, earned gold in the 100m breaststroke while also picking up a pair of bronzes in the 100m back and 200m individual medley races.

Finally, eight-year-old Brook Watson picked up a pair of golds in the 100m free and the 200m individual medley as well as a bronze in the 100m back.

The Sarnia Rapids swim team continue to train, working towards qualifying for the upcoming WOSA Regional Championships in Windsor.
